Scholarships

Some of the events held by CYM can be expensive. To help offset the cost of these events, certain funds have been set aside to provide scholarships. Rather than give everyone a scholarship regardless of need, we have developed a system for getting scholarships to the people who need them. For any given event there are a limited number of scholarships. In addition, scholarships may not be available for all events. Scholarships are available based only on the financial need of the family, not on that of the individual student. For instance, Bill Gates’ son would not receive a scholarship even if he considers himself financially needy. Instead, he should ask his father. To regulate this more effectively, scholarships are arranged between the Director of Family Ministries and the parents of the student(s) in question. Scholarships are not arranged directly with students. Scholarships are available for up to one half off the price for an event. The scholarship is offered on a first come, first served basis. When the designated number of scholarships has been awarded, there are no more. Scholarships are given in exchange for service of the student to Cornerstone Church at a rate of five dollars an hour. Tasks within this service vary. They may include but are not limited to: mailings, typing, cleaning, filing, or other tasks which need to be done. This serves both the Church, as it frees the church staff from time consuming tasks which could be performed by a volunteer, and the students, as it teaches them to earn the monies they receive for the trip.

We do our best to announce retreats and activities far enough in advance that students have time to save up money to be able to go. We have designed this program for those who are truly in financial need. This system works largely on the honor system, requiring families to designate themselves as in ‘financial need.’ Every effort is made to see that the necessary funds go toward providing a quality youth ministry experience for those who do not have the funds to do so on their own.

Sign-up For Events

Each event has a deadline by which participants must sign up and pay. This deadline is planned far enough in advance so that lodging, food, and transportation issues can worked out. In many cases, teens will not be allowed to attend or will have to provide their own food and transportation if they attempt to sign up after the deadline. This policy is not meant to be oppressive, but to make the flow of retreats easier for those planning it. The cost of each event must be paid for at the time of sign up, either by placing money and the sign-up form in the Youth Ministry Box at church or by giving the money and slip to the church Treasurer.

Emergency Medical Release Forms

A one time medical release form is required for all retreats and activities outside of Waukesha. The purpose of this form is to ensure immediate medical attention to your child in the event of an emergency. All hospitals require a parent’s signature before the treatment of a minor. If the youth group is two hours from Waukesha, your child would have to wait two hours for you to arrive and fill out the proper forms before treatment could be given. With a medical release form on file, you allow the leaders of the Cornerstone Youth Ministries to sign the necessary paperwork so that your child receives immediate attention. No one is allowed on a retreat or activity outside of Waukesha without a form on file with Kyle. In the event of an emergency, every effort possible will be taken to contact you before any medical action is taken.
