Worship Today

Welcome: We are so glad you came today. If you have any questions about Cornerstone Church, please call the church office at 262-646-6445.

Children: We love kids and have a well-staffed nursery for children up to age three. The nursery is west of the sanctuary on the main floor. Prior to the message, children ages three through the second grade are dismissed for Primary Praise in the lower level. Parents, please pick up your children after the service.

Parking: When leaving worship today, please remember to exit directly onto Hwy. 83 at the southwest corner and not back onto Alberta Drive.

Prayer: An important aspect of worship is intercessory prayer. There are two special opportunities for prayer on Sunday morning. Each Sunday morning an elder prays for the congregation during “Approaching the Throne of Grace.” If you have a request, please fill out a colored card on the table in the narthex prior to the service. Following the service, elders are available to pray with anyone who has a need they wish to bring in private. After the benediction, Jay Nelson and Dave DeYoung will be at the left of the pulpit.

Announcements

Today in Worship…We prepare for Christmas in this Advent season by focusing on the songs of joy in Luke. This morning we will look at the Benedictus, Zechariah’s song of praise in Luke 1:68-79, whose own silence is broken signaling God’s speaking mercy to His people.

Gama and Grace Pozos and their children, Samy and Abi, will be prayed for this morning. Gama serves as pastor at Door of Salvation Church in Ciudad Victoria, Mexico. Prayer is asked that the gospel will continue to shape all that the church is doing, both in the city of Victoria as well as in the lives of the church members. Pray for the safety of those in the city as the drug wars continue to ravage the nation.

Today is the third Sunday of Advent, the season of reflection in anticipation of the celebration of Christ’s birth. The carols we sing convey all of these thoughts and emotions. Just as Israel longed for redemption in the midst of darkness, so the advent songs reflect longing, a sober realization of the need for deliverance and redemption. As we move closer to Christmas Day, the carols focus more on the joy and hope realized by Christ’s birth, the deliverance and hope that it brings.

All Angel Tree gifts should be wrapped and returned to the tree TODAY. Please pray for the delivery teams as they deliver the gifts next weekend and have an opportunity to share the gospel with the families.

Be sure to return to church at 4:00pm today for the Children’s Christmas Program and the potluck supper to follow. The main course and beverages will be provided; please sign up in the narthex to bring a salad or dessert. Friends and family are all welcome!

TODAY is the deadline for ordering poinsettias. If you would like to help decorate the sanctuary for the Christmas season, lovely poinsettias are available for you to purchase, leave for the Sundays of Christmas, and then take home to enjoy.  An order form is in the bulletin. Contact Karen Carlsen with any questions.

The December Session Meeting will begin at 6:30pm on Thursday, the 15th. If anyone in the congregation has an item for the Session to consider, please speak to one of the members: John Osinga, John Harris, Greg Brinkmann, Jay Nelson, Steve Iler, Butch Harper, Dave DeYoung, or Pastors Vogel or Ferguson.

Men’s Leadership Deployment is meeting on Saturday, December 17, at 8:00am in the church library. This month’s topic will be our personal walk with God as a key in leadership. The book that complements this meeting is Jerry Bridges work, Disciplines of Grace. Copies are available in the narthex.

Christmas Caroling…You are invited to join the Youth Group as they carol at the Virginia Nursing Home next Sunday, the 18th.  Just meet them there at 5:00.

You are invited to join the Cornerstone family at the Christmas Eve candlelight service. It will begin at 6:00pm on December 24th.

Following the Christmas Eve Service, Greg and Sue Brinkmann are opening their home for the Cornerstone family.  Stop in for a minute or stay the evening. Please bring something sweet or savory to share.

Christmas Day Sunday School …While we will have our regular worship on Sunday morning at 10:00am on Christmas Day (as well as a Christmas Eve service the evening before), children’s Sunday School and the adult classes will be cancelled on Christmas morning.

Cornerstone’s new and improved website is at www.cornerstone-pca.com. Find archived sermons, the church calendar, photos, and weekly announcements there.

Every quarter free copies of our denomination’s magazine are available in the narthex. The newest issue of byFaith has an interview with Tullian Tchivdjian, pastor of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, which discusses the spiritual detriments that occur in society when the family is neglected, the perseverance of the saints, and other topics.

Do you want to know more about Cornerstone?  There is a new booklet available on the literature table in the narthex titled Getting to Know the Cornerstone Family that discusses our vision, values, and goals as a church. This booklet will give a newcomer a better understanding of who we are, from where we have come, and what it takes to become a member. The booklet is in lieu of membership classes, inviting people to consider Cornerstone as their home church and following that up with a discussion with a pastor or elder.

Congregational Meeting…There will be a congregation meeting on Sunday evening, January 29th, with an accompanying potluck dinner. The budget will be presented, as well as findings from the 2011 Learning Team and discussion regarding where God may be leading us in 2012 and beyond. More details to come.
