Sunday Morning Worship

WHY ARE WE HERE?

An old preacher once commented that a rut is nothing but a grave with the ends kicked out. We know we should avoid getting into ruts, mindlessly repeating the same activity. However, there is much we do in life that is repetitious, but far from lifeless. Breathing is one such activity. Worship is another. But still we often are forced to ask the question, “Why do we do what we do?” Each week, at an appointed time, we wander into the sanctuary, sing a few songs, say a few words, listen to some reading and talking, and go home. While that may describe what happens, it is far from what we do. The events we repeat each week should be to us the same as breathing; repetitious, but necessary to our very existence. Worship prescribed by God’s Word is far from a rut and certainly is not a grave. Rather, it is the means of grace by which we rise out of lifeless existence to serve Him. Scroll down this page to view those components which comprise our worship service.

WORSHIP

At 10 AM there is a time of singing, silence, and prelude. opened by a call to worship. This  allows worshipers to prepare their hearts and minds to encounter God.

PRAYER

An important aspect of worship is intercessory prayer. Each Sunday morning an elder prays for the needs of the congregation during the time we call "Approaching the Throne of Grace." If you have a prayer request please fill out a tan prayer request slip in the narthex prior to the service. Additionally, elders are available at the close of the service to pray privately with those who have  requests of a more private nature.

PRAISE

While praise is most easily identified with singing, praise in worship also takes place in prayer, offering, music, and in testimony. Praise is a crucial part of our worship service and occurs in a wide variety of forms.

OFFERING

Worship calls for a visible response to what God has done in our lives. One response is giving back to God a portion of what He has given to us in the form of an offering. The offering at Cornerstone is taken via an offering box located in the back of the sanctuary.

TEACHING OF GOD'S WORD

The most important component of the worship service is the teaching of God's inspired word. The teaching at Cornerstone is exegetical and expository in nature, progressing through God's Word verse by verse. Past sermon series have included Joshua, 1 Corinthians, Judges, Ephesians, and Leviticus. For past sermons, follow the link below.
