Nursery Worker Policies
Nursery Worker Guidelines

The Cornerstone Nursery is provided through Cornerstone Child Care Ministries. All nursery workers should read and agree to the Child Care Ministries Policy Statement.

All Nursery workers are approved by the Cornerstone Session.

No person with a background of sexual exploitation, even before conversion, will be allowed serve in the Cornerstone nursery.

The nursery officially opens fifteen minutes prior to the Sunday morning Christian education hour. Workers should arrive by 8:45 a.m. and stay until the last child leaves and all toys and equipment have been cleaned and put away.

Nursery workers who have been sick or had a fever within 24 hours should switch weeks.

Workers should use the time they have in the nursery to interact with the children, modeling the love of Jesus to them and their parents.

If possible, it is encouraged that nursery workers take their shoes off when they are working in the Sunday morning nursery.

Nursery workers may open the provided snacks in the Sunday morning nursery. However, they are asked to open only one package at a time.

Only female nursery workers may change diapers or take children to the bathroom, unless male nursery workers are taking care of their own children. If possible a bathroom will be used which is in sight of other nursery workers.

Nursery workers should never be alone with the children they are caring for. There should always be two or more workers present. Children should never be left unsupervised.

When a child is dropped off at the nursery, their name, parents’ names, parent’s location during the Christian Education hour and the corporate worship service, and any special instructions (i.e. food allergies) must be recorded on the provided sign-in sheet.

The child should be given a name tag for identification purposes which is placed on the child’s back to prohibit the child from removing the name tag.

All personal belongings brought with a child to the nursery must be labeled with their name to avoid confusion later. This may include items which may be contained inside a bag, such as cups or snack items.

Toys should be sanitized by nursery workers on a regular basis. Toys that require more thorough washing should be given to the nursery coordinator.
